Business Interview

This is an excerpt of the interview conducted by Victoria Lam about the retail company that she currently works for.

Sarah- Store Manager/ Assistant Buyer


>How long have you been in business?
A year and a half

>What do you think is the greatest thing about this business industry?
It's always growing there's always a need for our products, help them make wise decisions on the products they use.


>How do you stay afloat with our struggling economy?
Try to advertise our store by the internet(Website) so they can purchase things on line, and fliers and Myspace twitter Facebook, free classes, offer monthly coupons and sales promotions, seminars. etc

>What is your business plan for the next five years?
Establishing a website, if store sells pick up they're going to expand more businesses in different locations, and than have room to offer more classes


>What are some key things your business needs in order to survive? Communication to customers and the services we provide and between employees so that everything can be efficient. Carrying Quality products that you believe in

>What are you looking for when you are hiring a new employee? What is required? For sales associates experience in customer service and in retail, someone who is willing to learn and put in the effort. If you're not looking to stick it out there's no point in beginning

>What have you learned since you began your business?
Much more high maintenance than expected. Dealing with the wide range of Vendors (Over 200 vendors on a monthly bases regularly) Making sure products are displayed in ways that customers can see the benefit in them. More and more time is consumed in concentrating on how to run the business smoothly


>If you could give any advice to any new business owner what would you give? And why?
Be flexible, and still manage your business amidst the chaos. Be conversational and know your competition. Be knowledgeable about products that you don't even carry so that you know what you are talking about when customers do ask about them.
